I just love reading memes Marisol Mena’s memes in Quechua : facebook.com/chaskakanchariq
For those who don’t speak the language, I’m curious, can you understand what it’s about more or less?
I put the translation below, let’s see if the sense of humor goes beyond language barriers.

Do you also have memes in your indigenous languages?

“Forget your cellphone. Forget, forget, forget.”

I know this is in “off topic,” but I think it’s really something very important to discuss! My spanish is not perfect (as you can all see, haha,) but what I’ve learned comes more from memes than anything else, and the friends I have who make and share these memes in spanish. I think pages on social media that use memes like this with indigenous languages are one of the best ways of spreading those languages.

Truthfully, I couldn’t understand the meme you uploaded :joy:, but nonetheless I liked it. I think that this is why memes are so powerful for spreading indigenous languages (or any language): they’re funny even if you can’t understand them, and usually even more funny when you do.

And one more thing: Many of my friends on the internet learned English through the internet alone! (something very impressive, but very common as well!) I think this is because, for better or worse, the majority of the internet is written and spoken in English. Creating communities and pages online that have lots of content in indigenous languages is surely a great way to spread them. Sorry for the very long response! Hopefully it made sense!
